English This week in English, there will be a heavy focus on the accurate use of inverted commas to show direct speech. We teach the children 4 rules in the application of this punctuation mark: - Inverted commas to open and close speech - Punctuation to go before the closing inverted commas - New speaker, new line - Use synonyms for said (e.g. whispered, exclaimed, replied, etc.) Maths We will be continuing to focus on fractions this week in maths, looking particularly at: - finding fractions of shapes - finding fractions of quantities - adding and subtracting fractions - comparing and ordering fractions When finding fractions of a quantity, the children should know to divide by the denominator and multiply by the numerator. Regarding the maths workshop delivered on Tuesday, the office will send out the information delivered via Parent Mail.
Week Commencing 14.01.19 English This week in English, we are beginning to look at the book 'Leon and the Place Between'. We will be focusing on the following grammatical elements: - Prepositions expressing place. E.g. through, between, across, below, etc - Correct use of a thesaurus to find synonyms. - Accurate use of apostrophes for possession and contraction. Maths This week, we are beginning to look at fractions. We will be focusing on the following aspects: - Comparing fractions - Ordering fractions - Equivalent fractions. Below demonstrates what an equivalent fraction is and how to find them:
